Open IE Favorites And Bookmarks In A New Window

Wish you could open items in your IE favorites list in a new browser window? Here's a quick way to get that functionality.

Installation Instructions

Click on this link

You can choose to Open (or Run) it from its current location or Save (or Download) it to your hard disk. If you open/run the file from its current location you must answer Yes to the security warning, and Yes to the prompt about merging data into your registry. If you download it to your hard disk you have to double-click on the fav_window.reg file to run it, then answer Yes to the prompt about merging data into your registry.

What It Does

Adds a right click command to Internet Explorer to open Favorites and Bookmarks in a new window. If you right click on a link in your Favorites list or a button on your toolbar, you will see "Link Opens in New Window" as one of the options. This enables you to open the link in a new window without the need to launch a new instance of Internet Explorer or go to File|New|Window.

REG File Contents (for the technically curious):

REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InternetShortcut\shell]
@=""
"flags "=hex:01,00,00,00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InternetShortcut\shell\Link Opens in New Window]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InternetShortcut\shell\Link Opens in New Window\command]
@="rundll32.exe shdocvw.dll,OpenURL %l"

Thanks to Kate for the suggestion.

Re: Open IE Favorites And B... (Below threshold)

Re: Open IE Favorites And Bookmarks In A New Window. I downloaded the fav_window.reg, but I still don't see "Link Opens in New Window" when I right-click on a favorite. If anyone can tell me what to try next, please let me know.
