Remember, every day there's a new way to way to enter....
Assignment #4: Today's assignment is to tell us why you really need a PS3 this Christmas. We'll pick one winner Tuesday evening, so you've got 24 hours to make your case. If you don't win, don't worry, there will be many more opportunities to make the finalist pool.
Also keep adding Wizbang to your Technorati favorites, as we'll be coming back to that as soon as they get their stats updated. If you're not a Technorati member, you'll need to signup here first.
A list of all of the finalists is up and we'll be updating it daily. There are already two people qualified, and the Weekend Caption Contest winner will be added later tonight.
Update: After much soul searching I've selected J-Ho as the finalist. There were several heart-wrenching stories and many inspiring options for what people would potentially do with the PS3 to choose from. We'll revisit this theme, so you can keep making your case in the comment section. When we reissue this assignment we will point back to this thread and everyone commenting already will be eligible for consideration again.

It would be disengenious to say that I need a gaming machine, so here is why I want one.
Since the Atari first came out and my parents bought one for my brother and me, I havn't had a gaming console. Any games I play I play through a PC.
Now, I have four children and we are moving (Due to my job) from California to Washington and we will be living in a motorhome for an indefinite amount of time. That means 6 of us, me, my wife and my four kids will all be cooped up together in the motorhome living at a KOA in Kent Washington. There won't be any escape for my poor wife.
With a PS3, it might be enough to distract the kids and keep them busy for an hour or two everyday to give the little lady a break. A PC isn't really practical in a motorhome, nor is it very useable by small children. But when I was 19 me and some friends took a trip to Lake Tahoe and one of my friends brought his gaming machine and a television with us. I remember taking my parents motorhome and all the way there someone was playing a Michael Jackson Thriller game, killing zombies.
It seemed pretty easy and to work well. You just need a tv and the machine with some controllers and youve got hours of fun.
So that's why i'd really, really like to have a PS3 but I certainly do not need one.

I need a PS3 because it's becoming difficult to find Sega Saturn games these days, particularly if you want documentation with them.
Also, my daughter lusts after and wants to abscond with various and sundry belongings of mine, and, as you can tell, I don't have a state-of-the-art console gaming system with which to torment her.

Not having a gaming console since the first Playstation, I have been robbed of pop culture relevance. When cruising the net, I feel so out of place. References that should mean something just hit me like a brick. I still laugh at "All you bases ..." I couldn't join the Snakes on Plane revolution. You Tube is freaky magic to me.
A PS3 could cure me. Help me, Kevin; you're my only hope.

I need a PS3 because if I actually have to purchase a gaming console this year, then my wife will ensure that I purchase a Wii. While she claims that this is because the Wii games are more kid friendly, I know that it is because it is $350 cheaper. Regardless of my illustrating the PS3's technical superiority (not to mention the Blu-Ray DVD) my wife is standing firm.
As a result, I need a PS3 because my wife won't let me have one.

I need a PS3 to ensure that our enemies do not use them in a bid for "world conquest." Heaven knows what the terrorist networks could do with PS3-cum-supercomputer clusters. You think this is ridiculous? Think again. PS2s were used in this fashion by friends and foes alike. I am not a terrorist, far from it, I am a patriot, so rest assured I will limit my PS3 usage to mere entertainment! In short, a PS3 in my hands is a PS3 not being used by a terrorist. Please consider your own safety, as well as the safety of others, when thinking about giving away your PS3. I am a great candidate. :-)

My husband and I have 10 kids. Last year my husband lost his job and had to take a job that pays much less than the old job. So we can't really afford to do much for Christmas this year. My older boys (ages 18, 15, 13, and 11) would be so excited to get a PS3 for Christmas. We used to have a PS2, but it died. So, the reason I "really need a PS3 for Christmas" is to make Christmas special for my kids this year.

Most of the kids I deal with have been through all the Katrina hell this year and I would love to get a ps3 for our youth room, but obviously can't/won't buy one.
My youth group is amazing. They've spent the last six months working to help a neighborhood recover from the storm. They've given away hundreds of meals, plus other items people here need like toothpaste, toilet paper, light bulbs, wal-mart gift cards, dish-washing detergent and Christmas lights. They've cleaned storm drains, picked up trash and limbs, and mowed hundreds of lawns - all for free. The city of Kenner has asked to honor all of them with individual certificates of appreciation.
I'm proud of them and all that they've done. And, I would love to be able to reward them for being so generous and selfless.

I need a PS3 because at this point in my life I am not in a great financial position, not good enough to be able to set aside this amount of money for an expensive, although versatile and useful, gaming console. With work coming to a point in the near future where my hours may be coming at a premium, I am going to have even less money, and a state-of-the-art gaming system to distact me from my currently less-than-perfect situation would be great.
I would also be able to use some of the other features this system has. Being in Michigan, its great to have a machine that can start your car and shovel snow. PS3 can do this right?

When OJ drove down the freeway over a decade ago, I put my TV in a box and sold it. I figured there wouldn't be anything on for awhile. This happened right after I started working for a certain cow spotted computer company in the midwest. Then about 2 years ago the cow spotted computer company laid off everyone about 30 days short of my 10 year anniversary with them. Due to the large layoff I got the WARN act coverage and was technically employeed for 2 extra months but didn't need to come into work. Seeing that technically I had made my 10 years, I was elgible to get my 10 year anniversary gift - a 24 inch TV. Life it seems, is not without a sense of irony. The day after the TV was delivered to my house the cable company showed up and asked if I needed cable - I hadn't called them, and I hadn't told anyone that I was getting a TV. Strange, I thought as I quickly scanned the skies for the black helicopters that were certain to be spying on me. I told the cable guy I didn't need cable right now and to get off my property. I figured maybe all those people that wear tinfoil hats and talk to shopping carts might be on to something with the whole 'it can see you even when its not plugged in - thing'. I have left that TV sealed in its box even till today. Although 2 weeks ago I started getting basic TV cable service because the price for basic cable with my highspeed internet and phone was the same as it was for the last year for just the internet and phone. Tonight I bought the cable plugs and splitter to hook up the TV. I figure there probably still isn't much on, so having a gaming counsole to hook up to the TV would be nice. You just have to promise it isn't some kind of mind control thing that will make me sit in front of the TV for hours staring at it, talking to myself or making my want to wear a tinfoil hat and rub myself down with mayonaise.

I want a PS3 so I can sell it on eBay and buy myself a Wii. Make that about 10 Wii's. And what could I possibly do with 9 extra Wii's? Make 9 homeless kids very happy!
Of course, they've got to buy their own tv's. And electricity. And homes. Wait a minute...this might not work out exactly as planned...forget the homeless kids.
Make it 9 foster kids. Yeah, because foster kids have homes; albeit sad and lonely homes. But they've got electricity. Probably. And I'll assume a TV too. Although foster homes usually have A LOT of kids. All those kids fighting over who gets to play the Wii next makes me sad. You just know the youngest kid will never get a chance to play. WAIT A MINUTE! I'll give the 9 extra Wii's to a foster family with 9 kids!
Yes and...crap. That means they've got to have 9 tv's. This is getting confusing.
Ok...forget the foster kids.
Why did Sony use the same font for the PS3 as the latest Spiderman movie? Do I get a free Spiderman game with the PS3? What exactly is going on here? But I digress...
Come to think of it, I don't really want a Wii. From what I've seen, you have to move around too much. If I wanted to move around a lot, I'd join a gym.
So I guess I'll be keeping the PS3. Thanks in advance.

I really need a PS3 this Christmas because I want to be a hero - THE Santa Claus. Not to my friends, family, or coworkers, but to someone who doesn't even know me. Let me explain... At work here, some folks have started an adopt-a-family Christmas tree with gift requests from a special underprivaged family. We only know the first names of the family. Without getting into too much details, there's a single mom and two kids in this family. Mostly the gifts fall into the socks/pajamas/winter wear category. No one in this family asked for any sort of game console, but I think the kids would just love it. And, while they don't know exactly who gave them this gift, it would be from the awesomest Santa. ever.

Well first off ... the main reason i want a ps3 is to stick out in this neighborhood... i love video games ... boy do i ... to tell u the truth ne one u ask around here would say im one of the best gamers around this area... also i have to prove to people why the PS3 is waaaaaaaayyyy better than a 360 and wii ... and the only way is to actually own and show them ... i know u know the feeling that video games bring to all of u and thats a plus to why i really want to get one .....
now i will give u the top 2 reasons why:
Value for Money #2: even though the ps3 is 600 bucks!!!!! its well worth it trust me ... all those who say other wise are crackheads ... like the microsoft 360 fans heres some info for u
Xbox 360 Standard: $399.99
Gold Xbox Live Subscription: At least $49.99 (per year)
Wireless Networking Adapter: $99.99
HD-DVD: $199.99
Total: $749.96
Compared to all the awesome features the PS3 gives u 3 times hard drive size :
Playstation 3 standard: $599.99
PS3 Network Platform: Free
Wireless Networking Adapter: Built-in
Blu-ray player: Built-in
Total: $599.99
WOW still 600 bucks amazing lol
And the #1:
The Games: Sonys 3rd party support just amazed me ... all the neat games wow the PS2 dominated taht section which i believe they will with the PS3 i cant wait to play them ... its makin me get chills already!!!!
Along with their amazingly designed controllers ... i love the feel of them compared to the xbox and wii its just a perfect fit for me lol must it go on .. well yes it was 3 reasons why but u get my point ... THIS IS WHY I REALLY WANT A PS3 FOR CHRISTMAS THX AND MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL MAY GOD BLESS

I keep asking santa and include a PS3 in my prayers nightly but karma seems to be holding me back. It's like I am doomed to PS2 hell for the rest of eternity. So if I don't find a way to win a new playstation I may never know the joys of playing one. I may in fact grow old and never play a video game again. I don't want to have to use credit cards because I'm on a fixed income, but it looks like that's the way it is this year.
She really wants a Playstation, and I haven't figured out how I'm even gonna swing a PS2, much less a PS3, and her dad (my ex) is a cheap, selfish SOB who always ends up forcing me to be Santa, despite the fact that I can't work. I would like a PS3 but...... not for myself.
I would like to win one so I can give it to my boyfriend and be the best girlfriend ever!

I would like to win a PS3 because first of all i have never had a game console before. I have always wanted one but i never had the money to buy one and my parents would never buy me one when i was a kid. I also would like one because if i ever would get to have a game console i would like it to be something i waited my whole life to try and get. Another reason is because i live at home and am still in college, i could share it with my huge family of 8 siblings. then when it arrives my whole family will be surprised to imagine having a dream game console
